Recruiter's Suggested Cover-Letter Formula

| | Comments (0)

More from a posting on the RecruitingBlogs site from corporate recruiter Bill Meiers:

Meiers suggests a three-part cover letter — an intro, a “sell” section, and a close.

The Intro should “make it quickly clear to the employer what job you want and where you found it. This is important data for employers to see where their postings are getting activity from, they will appreciate it.”

The Sell portion, should be a few bullet points that connect the dots between your qualifications and the job you’re targeting. “There is no need to regurgitate your resume in the cover [letter],” he says.

The Close should contain “a mention of the next steps. It shows interest and a call to action.”

Future entries will look at more of Meiers’s thoughts on cover letters — as well as some of the comments his blog posting got from other recruiters.
